I am excited to read "Kiss my Math". It has saved me money and time that is so valuable to me. I loved it and everything began to make sense. Also I was told that she is writing a 3rd book in an email from her company. I essentially skipped Basic Math and Pre-Algebra. I am a 38-year old mother of 5 who recently decided to go back to school.
I found Danica's book "Math Doesn't Suck" I read it first and read the entire book in one night. I live in Southern Ohio and am attending Hocking College. I took my placement test and tested into the lowest class available which was Basic Math. This achievement has brought me renewed confidence in myself at a time when I need it most. Thanks for writing a book that actually makes sense. I was told that I could retake the test so I went to the library and checked out a bunch of math books to study and get prepared.
I studied it for 2 weeks then went back and took my test again and tested into Intro to Algebra.
It surprised me to see some of my own tactics in the book. I absolutely love this book. By the way, I bought this book because a student had recommended it to me. I can honestly say that I read this book in a matter of a couple of days and am reading it again and taking notes down. It has been an amazing tool to use when I am tutoring my middle school students in math. Danica McKellar did a superb job in this book.
She is a tireless advocate who encourages girls to excel in mathematics, and there is no reason why they should not. (I've seen my share of those). . This book is an excellent guide for students who get discouraged by incompetent math instruction or boring and badly authored math textbooks. Without question, this is a five star book./ Danica McKellar is for me, one of the true heroines in the modern world. She obtained her degree in mathematics, and for that I respect her.
I love a good puzzle.I'm looking forward to continuing with this series. In the last couple of days, I've gotten through more than half of this book. It's like a collection of puzzles with fun to read narratives leading the way. I was a Film major/English minor who spent the first 35 years of her life avoiding any and all mathematical functions. It's never too late to cultivate confidence; thanks, Danica. It was my love of Excel (which feels like a video game to me) not my understanding of math that made the career shift possible. In recent years, I became the accountant-by-default at the small visual effects company. When I encountered Danica's book, I realized this was my chance to "go back in time" and redevelop my relationship with numbers.
Infinitely.primarily.Bill Doughty Tee Hee.Boys will love this book. I am 67 and for the first time in my "math life" I understand prime numbers and how to easily determine them. That alone is worth the price of the book and I look forward to learning more.AND I am a man. This book in cutely titled, but does it seem a bit sexist in today's PC culture.
